If you don't like/don't want to learn a unix editor, you can check out
rhide <http://www.tu-chemnitz.de/~sho/rho/rhide/rhide.html>; it's an ide
but can be used as just a simploe text editor.  It's based on the borland
turbo c++ ide, so it's got DOS-style bindings.
