Okay, try this instead. Instead of changing the examples/x86 GNUmakerules
to build against the freebsd C library, try adding your targets to the
examples/x86/extended GNUmakerules. This should not have any effect on the
timer example, but you never know. Besides, the x86/extended directory is
set up to use the proper includes and libraries, and it will correctly find
the source code for examples that are in examples/x86. In the longrun, you
will have more success doing it this way.
