GLobal IMPlicit SEarch. You can think of it as a really fast
way to do a recursive grep. Info is at http://glimpse.cs.arizona.edu/
You can download it from ftp://ftp.cs.arizona.edu/glimpse/
FreeBSD includes it in its ports collection (textproc/glimpse),
and I would guess that some (most?) Linux distributions would
include it as well.
glimpseindex builds a "database" for use by glimpse, so you don't
have to find, open, and search every file on every search, like
you would have to do using find and grep to search.
