Best I can think of are these:
BBEdit Lite is a free application that does text processing and it will do
it, and also Tex-Edit Plus shareware text ediitor will do this.

Not quite what you wanted.

Subject: [*] [*] DiskSurveyor 2.0.1

This much improved version of DiskSurveyor has many new features and
enhancements -- more information displayed, a new Filtering mode, faster
disk scanning and improved memory management to name a few.

DiskSurveyor is a utility designed to provide relief to frustrated
computer users with cluttered hard drives. It doesn't promise to make
your hard drive any bigger, but it does show you, *GRAPHICALLY*, what's
using up all that space. Click on a folder and zoom in for a closer
look. Or zoom back out. Shift-click on a folder, and it brings up the
ACTUAL folder so you and can drag the "offending" files to the Trash or
your backup volume. Create DiskSummary files that list all the files
found on CDROMs or any other volume. No longer will you have to waste
valuable time navigating through folder after folder trying to figure
out which files need to be archived or trashed to free up precious disk
space.

Version 2.0.1 fixes a problem with reading the file size correctly for
files larger than 2 gigabytes. [MacOS 9 and later allow files larger
than 2 GB]

System Requirements:
System 7 or greater and at least 256 colors (or shades of gray) are
     recommended.
PPC processor -- (68K version available at <http://twilightsw.com>)

Shareware: $15 (US)

Subject: [*] Orbit 1.3.4

Orbit is a program that shows the effects of gravity on bodies in space.
The program is fully documented, comes with several example solar systems,
is free and open source.

Version 1.3.4 fixes lots of bugs, is faster, and allows you to see
information about each system and the bodies in it on the fly. The
flakiness of the animation has been fixed.
It is now possible to make collision elastic.

Author: Aaron Golden
System Requirements: MacOS 7.5 and up
License: Absolutely Free + Open Source :)

Previous Updates:
Version 1.2.8 is a leap ahead in all aspects of the program. It is now
possible to save and open files from the program (without using the finder).
The program runs much, much faster, and the blinking of the animation has
been eliminated. It is now possible to make a planet stationary. It won't
move no matter what. You can get some cool effects with this. As always, I
added in a couple more systems for you to check out.

Version 1.2.9 has cooler graphics, is faster, and fixes the bugs that made
the tracking option get messed up sometimes. It also includes preferences.
The new options are:
Show about window on startup
Show open dialog on startup
Use a black background
Draw a grid

Version 1.3 fixes a couple bugs having to do with conservation of momentum
and collisions between planets. The documentation has been updated and is
more comprehensive. It is now possible to specify the radius of a body
(instead of basing it on mass).

now small global floating windows. You can now have more than one
reminder open at the same time. Reminders can now play MP3s, MP2s,
the audio track of QuickTime Movies, AIFF files, and Windows Wav
files. Added anti-aliasing of the note ovals. You can now set the
calendar row to keep the current week in. You can now set the delay
time for the QuickView corner. A Windows menu has been added. The
Frames folder can now be kept in the same folder as the PandoCalendar
application. The Preferences window has been redesigned. You can now
change the font used for Faith's Checkbook. Fixed a bug where an
appointment that is set to display a reminder minutes or hours in
advance, and the advance time extended into an earlier day, would be
displayed a day late. Changed the Recurring Note list and the list in
search result windows to use Apple's new DataBrowser control.

VCD Player simplifies the process of playing video compact discs on your
Mac. With most other players, you only get video in a tiny area of your
screen, or in an area surrounded by a huge border of some sort. VCD Player
smoothes the video playback process and allows you to watch full-screen
movies in the MPEG format, without any headache-inducing distortion to make
the movie unwatchable. There are various configurable options that control
sound and playback, and just as with a sound-only CD player, you can control
which track to start watching. VCD Player can remember where you stopped
playing the movie after you quit the program, restarted your Mac, or even
changed to another disc then changed back.

System Requirements

I've got a strange problem with my browsers. When attempting to access web

Well, I've checked and both Navigator and Explorer are configured to accept
cookies just fine. I've deleted preferences and even tried accessing the
net via a different ISP just to be sure they weren't being filtered. No
change. I also tried setting my cookie preferences to require my OK'ing

Any ideas? If you can help, c.c. me directly as I often get way behind on

Subject: PocketDrive Lacie Firewire

I just bought a Pocketdrive Firewire external 20GB HD from Lacie and
I'm having problems. The drive is connected via Firewire to a PMac
G4/350 with Mac OS 8.6.
Time by time I get some error box asking to disconnect and riconnect
the drive. After that the drive work allright.
Anyone had the same problem?
Thanks

Subject: Running script on wake?

Hi,

Is it possible to have something run automatically when the mac is awakend from sleep? Conceptually, I'm looking for something like a "Wake-up Items" Folder.

Is there some sort of wake-up event that applescript recognizes? (...in which case I'm thinking I could just have a script running constantly in the background just waiting for this event)

Thanks for any ideas.

Can anyone point me to a way to implement Java Servlets on a Mac?
Preferably as an extension to the personal web server, and free.

I agree. Oh, that's Virtus <http://www.virtus.com/>.

I suspect that a two-pronged approach may work best here. First off,
see if NASA has the same files in alternate file formats
(alternatively, tell them that the player is no longer available and
ask them when they plan on completing the conversion process:-}). The
second would be to contact Virtus and ask them what their plans are,
given their high visiblity linkage from NASA, etc etc.

It looks like a real stumper, that's for sure.
