Subject: [*] AutoLaunch 1.0.8

AutoLaunch is a screen saver "engine" that launches an application after
your Macintosh has been idle for a specified amount of time. It's great
for running stand-alone MacroMedia Director movies as screen savers,
executing AppleScript applets during idle time, restarting demos after a
person walks away from an in-store Mac, etc. It will also keep
applications like FileMaker Pro Server in the foreground so they run
faster when the server is unattended.

AutoLaunch is capable of locating an application anywhere on a Mac's
hard disk, making distribution of Director presentations much easier -
you don't have to worry about installation procedures or that users will
move the presentation to another folder - it'll always work.

A new capability in this release will make web browsers periodically
cycle through a list of URLs, letting you display your favorite web
pages during idle time! It currently requires some ResEdit manipulation
to set the URLs, but future versions will provide a user interface if
interest merits it.

In addition to the standard internet archives, information and updates
are available at:

Subject: [*] CacheSaver 1.0.2f (French version)

Like many people, you've probably found that increasing the size of the
disk cache in the Memory control panel can improve the performance of
many applications, especially web browsers like Netscape Navigator. The
disk cache speeds up disk input and output by keeping the contents of
files in RAM, rather than immediately reading or writing them on the
disk.

The problem with using a large disk cache is that when you save
information, the data may end up staying in the cache for quite a while
before it really gets written to your hard disk. If your Mac crashes
before the cache gets saved, your data is lost.

CacheSaver addresses this problem by periodically saving (or "flushing")
the disk cache, thus minimizing data loss should your Macintosh crash
while you are working. You can set CacheSaver to flush the cache
whenever your Mac is idle for more than a specific amount of time, or it
can do it automatically at regular intervals. CacheSaver also provides
a hotkey so you can flush the disk cache manually.

In addition to the standard internet archives, information and updates
are available at:

Crafty is a free chess program written by Bob Hyatt (hyatt@cis.uab.edu)
and targeted for Unix and DOS. This release of Crafty for the Mac is by
Rolf Exner (r.exner@trl.oz.au) and is based on the 11.13 version of
Crafty. It supercedes a port by Lloyd Lim based on Crafty 9.30 which
must be used through a text (console) interface.

This release includes AppleEvent support and can therefore be used
through the graphical interface of programs such as ExaChess Lite. It
features faster startup, is less of a CPU hog when other programs are
running on the same Mac, and it has some new commands. The release is
distributed as a fat binary.

Subject: [*] ExaChess Lite 1.0

ExaChess Lite is a freeware version of ExaChess, a powerful new
chess database for the Macintosh. ExaChess Lite provides most of the
features of ExaChess in a version suitable for maintaining a personal
games collection, and is free.

Use it to manage small games databases, as a chessboard to play
through games, as a tool to record and annotate your own games, or
to play against the computer.

Its features include:

- Direct support (without conversion) of ChessBase, NICBase, and PGN
databases, as well as ExaChess's own database formats.
- Search across all databases or just a single database file by player
name, event, year, result, ECO code, opening name, position, partial
position, material, special game features, or any combination of these.
- Shows ECO code and opening name for each game and statistics for all
  matching games.
- Finds and allows easy removal of duplicate games from any database.
- Resizable, customizable 2-D color board with smooth animation.
- Flexible game parser that handles free-form text input, both algebraic
and descriptive, including move and position evaluations, variations
  and text comments.
- Records full tree of moves. Switch to variation or return to main line.
- Interfaces to external 'chess engines' via Apple Events. Play against
Crafty, GnuChess, or ZZZZZZ using ExaChess's board. Suitable version
of ZZZZZZ supplied, others available at Mac and chess archive sites.

ExaChess Lite omits a few features of ExaChess and is restricted to
showing the first 256 or 128 games only of larger databases.

Subject: [*] How Big is the Mac Archive

As students and collectors of the Mac Community File Archive we became
interested in determining the size and compostion of the Mac Archive.

We analysed all the major online archives and most of the CD collections
that have been released during 1996. Our analysis with graphs of the age
size and composition of most of the archive is available at
http://ianandstuart.simplenet.com.

We estimate the public online Mac Community Archive is 30,000 compressed
files for 10GBytes expanding to 150,000 files. The complete online
Archive is 45,000 compressed files for 15GBytes expanding to 250,000
files. The complete Mac Archive is 150,000 files for 30GBytes that should
expand to 650,000 files. We estimate that total online Mac file space is
less than 500GBytes with the complete computing Archive less than 10
Terabytes.

This Acrobat document features all the pages and images from our web
site. Visit our web site if you want to use our Search page or Site links.

KEYWORDS: JAPAN FONT KANJI HIRAGANA KATAKANA PRINT GRAPHICS JLK

Version 1.3 Includes:
* Minor spacing adjustments on some charaters!
* COMPLETE characters for both the Hiragana and Katakana Font Sets!
* Expanded manual!

Have you ever wanted to "jazz" up a document with the addition of some
Japanese characters? Have you ever wanted clear crisp Japanese
characters at any font size? Have you ever wanted to use Japanese
characters in applications that don't work with the language kit? Well,
with the addition of the Japanese Font Package, you can do just that!

What is the Japanese Font Package?

The Japanese Font Package is a collection of Hiragana, Katakana and some
special characters that are unique to Japanese. The use of these
characters is made possible through a keyboard layout similar to those
used in Japan. Rather than using Romanji, each character can be written
with the push of a button! Each key is given a special Japanese
character as it's output. The character to the right of the standard
letter, is the hiragana or katakana key that will be printed when
entered.

The Japanese Font Package includes pictures of the entire Japanese
keyboard which have been provided in various graphics formats. (PICT,
GIF and JPEG) It is recommended that you print out the keyboard layout
and use it to determine which Japanese characters you wish to type.

Anything-Ware: Send my Anything! (Such as, T-shirts, post cards,
letters, E-mails, and of course the mighty $You-Know-What$!
But please, nothing that's dirty & stinks!)

Hi! This a set of icons I have created for 3.5 inch (90mm)
Magneto-Optic (MO) disks. I am so far not able to find such
MO disk icons in the Info-Mac archive, so I made them myself.
Enjoy!

This may be distributed freely over the internet as a package,
with icons, and this read me, and may not be sold without my
permission. Please send me the CD if it's included in any CD
library.

Subject: [*] PrintUseMonitor 3.4

PrintUseMonitor monitors the pages printed on Quickdraw printers,
including all the StyleWriter series and LaserWriter 300 printer,
and displays a warning dialog when the print cartridge is about
to run out.

PrintUseMonitor displays a progress bar indicating the Print Cartridge
wear and has many other features too.

If you refill ink cartridges then this application is useful for
determining when to do this, or if you always replace your ink cartridge,
this application can help you to determine when to order a new cartridge.

This version adds support for Spanish, and will even predict the
date when your printer cartridge will run out, based on average use.

This program requires System 7.
Please include this on CD collections if you wish.

Best Regards,
Steve Smith

want to move and paste it over the QuickPress window. That's all you
have to do! Simple and powerful! QuickPress communicates with the
Shuffler protocol. You have to have either the QuickPress Server,
Shuffler Server or any other Shuffler protocol compatible application
installed on your Newton.

Subject: [*] TrueClock? 1.9

TrueClock? is freeware, for any Macintosh or PowerMacintosh running
system 7.0 or later. It will work with 64K of memory although 128K is
preferred (especially on systems with colors or levels of gray).

It is a small application that puts on the screen a round clock to show
the (system) time. You can move or resize the clock. Its window can be
made globally floating ("omnipotent" mode): once omnipotent, TrueClock?
always remain completely visible; it is not hidden by other windows.

You can specify colors for the hands, graduations and background. You
can disable the seconds and make the hands and graduations thick or
thin.

There is an optional "digital" display to show
date/time/day_of_week/timer. Also, "Copy" (Cmd-C) puts the
date/time/timer in the scrap, to be pasted in other applications.

TrueClock? needs only 64K of memory to work, although 100K are necessary
on color systems for full functionality, and 128K is preferred.
