Subject: [*] Briscola 1.2

What is Briscola ?

Briscola 1.2 is a card game for Macintosh and PowerMacintosh. This game
is well known in Italy as briscola, but is known as atout for French
people and as trump for English ones. The briscola is the suit of the
card which lies below the pack. Sometimes somebody considers briscola
that card. Any card whose suit is briscola, should be kept jealously to
get as more as opponent's points. The aim is to get more than 60 points,
half of 120 available points. You have to face your opponent 20 times.

Briscola 1.2 requirements

- System 7.0.
- RAM: 1500 KB available for Briscola.
- Color QuickDraw.
- any processor, 680x0 or PowerPC.

What's new in 1.2 ?

- bug removed while opening the preferences file.
- PICT resources reduced to 16 bit.
- some code added to support Roman languages.
- added Italian menus, dialogs, texts.
- better poker pictures for aces, jacks, queens and kings. I changed
these symbols to PICTs, because in Briscola 1.0 and 1.1 I used bitmap
system fonts and they were badly rendered if you have Espi Sans as
system font, as Aaron or Kaleidoscope set at startup.
- even with Trevisan cards the winning ones are inverted now.
- background and font even changed at the end of the game.
- the pack on the table is "deep", so that you can guess how many cards
remain in it.
- sounds are now asynchronous.
- some minor bugs removed.

Briscola 1.2 is a shareware game. Its shareware fee is 5 US$ and the
registration is handled by Kagi. Try also to look at Tencas's home page

The enclosed file is an Excel 5 workbook that contains two worksheets. One
sheet holds a user-defined function, written in Visual Basic for Applications,
which constitutes my attempt to simulate the U.S. federal income Tax Table
included with the instructions to Form 1040. The second sheet is a sample use
of the function.

The function can be invoked in a worksheet cell by typing:

"=fedtax('FilingStatus','Income')"

(neither single nor double quotes should be typed). FilingStatus is an
integer between 1 and 4 (1 = Single, 2 = Married filing jointly, 3 = Married
filing separately, and 4 = Head of household) and Income is the numerical
income (e.g., 1040 line 37) on which the tax is to be calculated. For incomes
up to $100,000, the tables are emulated. For higher incomes, the equations
shown on page 53 of the 1040 instructions are used.

System requirements: Excel 5 with Visual Basic installation option.

Freeware. May be included on Info-Mac CD-ROM.

Grateful Dead Dancing Bear Screen Saver

This screen saver works with the After Dark. PICS Player Module. If you
do not have the PICS Player Module, you won't be able to use this
download.

How does this work?

Once you have downloaded and decompressed the file you will see this
ReadMe file and a folder named "Dancing Bears." Place the "Dancing
Bears" folder in your After Dark. Files folder which should be in your
Control Panels folder. When you open After Dark. and choose the PICS
Player Module, select the "Choose Folder" button and navigate to the
"Dancing Bears" folder. When you open that folder you can then select
which bear you want to see dancing about your screen.

You can choose Red, Green, Orange, Yellow or Blue...there is also a
Rainbow Bear option if you can't decide on one color. Each of these
choices will give you a "dancing" bear on your monitor, brighting your
day and those who wander by as the bear twists to its heart's content.

CAUTION: The PICS Player Module has an "Invert" option. Don't use it!
The bears will look lousy.

I hope this module works for you. I made this after I got tired of
seeing Dancing Bears screen savers only available for PCs and Windows.

This is E-mailWare. If you use it and like it, send me some e-mail.

Have a nice day.

Subject: [*] Hyper-Stack Player Pro-PPC

Hyper-Stack Player Pro-PPC Copr. 1995-96 Bruce A. Pokras

Hyper-Stack Player Pro ("HSP Pro") is a player for HyperCard stacks which
provides the functionality of all versions of Apple's HyperCard Player up
to and including the lastest version, 2.3.5. So if your Mac did not come
with HyperCard Player 2.2 or 2.3, you can use HSP Pro instead. Available
separately for 680x0 Macs (68k version) and for Power Macs (PPC version).
HSP Pro is an upgrade of my previously released Hyper-Stack Player 2.3.

***A special new feature is HSP Pro's built-in ability to view and edit
scripts and the contents of locked and/or hidden fields.***

HSP Pro goes further than just allowing you to merely use HyperCard stacks:
 - create buttons which you can link to your favorite stacks (size, color
and style are customizable. You can even add a monochrome icon of your
choice);
 - use the "Print Stack..." and "Print Field..." menu commands of the
"File" menu (these are ordinarily disabled in Apple's Player);
 - view and edit the contents of fields (even locked and hidden ones);
 - view and edit the scripts which make HyperCard stacks work;
 - add buttons to other stacks to give them added features;
 - other new features over previous versions are described in an "HSP Pro
New Features" file which is included. Some features require a registration
code for activation.

HSP Pro provides a good way for school computer labs to provide access to
their HyperCard stacks. A password protection scheme prevents the students
>From making any unauthorized changes.

Shareware $10/Mac; Site licenses $50/site (e.g., school computer labs or a
single corporate location). Free upgrade for registrants of previous
versions (or anyone who registers a previous version by February 28, 1997.
See the included "HSP Upgrading & Special Offer" file).

HSP Pro can be registered world-wide by credit card using either E-mail
(with automatically encrypted credit card info), fax or snail-mail through
the Kagi Shareware service. Kagi also accepts checks (payable in U.S.
dollars) and cash (a number of non-U.S. currencies are supported).

(If you have a PowerMac, get MacChess 3.0, instead -

Very polished, strong, FREE! chess software. Commercial grade.
Lots of features. Very popular: over 20,000 downloads of MacChess 2.X
on AOL alone. Plays black or white, set strength many ways, unlimited
move takeback, gives hints, prints diagrams, five piece sets,
eight boards, outscores ChessMaster 3000 and GNUChess on problem tests.
Reads/saves in own/PGN/EPD formats.

MacChess 2.5.1 is an extremely minor bug fix update to 2.5:
the preferences for Clickable (Piece movement) and Long (notation)
are now saved correctly, and the opening book has 10% more lines.

Do you own a collection of old National Geographic Magazines? Have you ever
tried to find that nice article that you barely remember and which would be
quite useful right now, but you don't know how to dig it out of the
collection?
The yearly index (published since 1983) does not help very much, because
the titles of the articles are quite imaginative but rarely contain the
keywords that let you find out what you need. For instance, how could you
tell that the article "Oldest Known Shipwreck" deals with an archaeological
find in Turkey? (You can find it in the December '87 issue at page 693)

I have copied (with scanner and OCR SW) all the yearly indices since 1983
and have added a handful of keywords (not already in the title itself), so
that the resulting list may be searched with a text editor (e.g. with the
Find and Find All utilities in BBEDIT). The structure of the list is quite
obvious, and the records contain the title, the page number and the
keywords.
My choice of keywords is quite personal, it may be wrong and is certainly
incomplete. Let me know of any mistake that you find in the list.

If you like this edited index please send me a postcard.

SculFux
a font by Jason Rainbows'
Magic Theatre Art & Design

SculFux is a nice psychedelic retro '60s font, reminiscent
of the style of the old "Family Dog" San Francisco rock 'n roll
posters of that decade.

This incredibly flexible postscript font looks great at large
sizes, distorted into wierd shapes and, for added dimensionality,
try it in outline and shadow. It's the one to use when all
others are just too normal!

Contains all alphabetic characters, upper and lower case,
numeric and punctuations, etc. Sorry, no special characters.
Dedicated DeadHeads will appreciate the name and style of
this font.

Subject: [*] Smack a Skunk 1.0 (game)

When you get pissed, but can't get even...

		    SMACK A SKUNK!

The revenge of the Angry User

This is a game for getting rid of all that frustration that certain
companies, persons and organizations cause you. A bunch of suggested
skunks are provided, but you can also make your own.

Disclaimer: We do not encourage mistreatment of innocent animals!

This game is similar to the "Wack-a-mole" games you find in some amusement
parks, where moles peek out of holes and you should hit them before they go
back in again. That's exactly what you do here, with the difference that it
isn't moles, but symbols for whatever you feel like hitting for the moment.

You must have a 640x480 pixel screen and 256 colors. (Sorry if you don't -
there are some good reasons, believe me!) A 68LC040 processor or better is
strongly recommended. Fat binary. Tested on Performa 630, PowerMac 6100 and
PowerMac 7600.

Freeware.

Subject: [*] SmartScroll 2.0.2J - Japanese Version

This is the Japanese version of the SmartScroll package.

Smart Scroll enhances regular scroll bars so they show how much of a
document is displayed in a window. The indicator tab in scroll bars becomes
proportional : If a window is displaying half of a document, the tab will
be half the scrollbar size.

This gives you an idea of how large the document is, without having to
scroll the window to find out. Try it for yourself, it speeds browsing the
Net or going through your email, for example.

Smart Scroll also adds Active Scrolling, which updates the display as you
drag the scrollbar tab. Just release the tab when you see the part of the
document you want: no more guessing where you'll end up!

All scrollbars benefit from these improvements, even those hidden in Open
and Save dialogs. After a few days of Smart Scroll, going back to regular
scroll feels like something is missing !

This version includes compatibility with Kaleidoscope 1.01.

Boot from a floppy or external hard disk, and either erase the hard disk or
disable At Ease. I believe there's an "At Ease Extension" or something
like that you can get rid of.

You should be able to simply replace the internal drive with the faster one.

Of course, you may need new driver software to use the new "generic"
mechanism.

An external drive is really just the same as an internal drive; it's just
at the end of a longer cable, and has a little box around it.
