Subject: (A) Cube Can take two monitors

Dear Digest readers,
Actually the Cube can support a second display. It has two
video-out ports, the ADC and VGA port. Of course this means one
display has to be compatible with one connector, while one is with
the other connector. This according to Apple's own specs. Whether
or not that supports the concept of an extended desktop, I can't say.
But at least it does have two monitor compatible ports.
Sincerely,
abrody@smart.net

Subject: 512 meg PowerBook chips?

Some of the suppliers (Viking for one) are advertising 512 meg chips
said to fit into the upgrade slots for the G3 (Firewire) PowerBook
models. Apple's stuff says they top out at 256 with the ability to
address a TOTAL of 512.

Any one have any semi-official info if the 512's actually work?

Subject: [*] Default Folder 3.0.9 - Open/Save dialog enhancement

Default Folder is a Mac OS 9 savvy control panel that enhances Open
and Save dialog boxes to make it easier for you to manage files on
your Macintosh. It provides many of the essential features of
commercial utilities like Action Files, SuperBoomerang, and Directory
Assistance, but without the infrequently used extras that take their
toll in compatibility, memory, and CPU usage.

In addition, Default Folder fully supports the Navigation Services
Open and Save dialogs available in Mac OS 8.5 and higher, allowing
you to access your recently used and favorite folders everywhere.

What's New
----------
Default Folder 3.0.9 offers compatibility with Mac OS 9.1 and the
Classic environment in OS X. It also includes a Scripting Addition
that allows AppleScripts to set the folder for both Standard File and
Navigation Services Open and Save dialogs. In addition,
compatibility problems have been corrected with QuicKeys 5 and MPW,
and there is a workaround to add folders to the Recent Folders menu
even if they are on a Windows NT server that reports its folders as
being invisible. Full details are available at:

	<http://www.stclairsoft.com/DefaultFolder/revhist.html>

More About Default Folder
-------------------------
Default Folder's time-saving Open and Save dialog enhancements allow you to:

- Set up a default folder for any or all applications.
- Switch among recently used folders from a pop-up menu.
- Easily navigate to your favorite folders.
- Share common sets of recent and favorite folders between all Open and
Save dialogs, including Navigation Services dialogs.
- Click on a Finder window to list its contents in an Open or Save dialog.
- See available disk space and switch between disks from a pop-up menu.
- Open the folder shown in an Open or Save dialog in the Finder.
- Create folders, get information (including changing name, type, and
creator), and move items to the Trash from within file dialogs.
- "Rebound" back to the last file you used.
- Make "Replace" the default option instead of "Cancel" when saving a
file with the same name as an existing file.

versions of a file into a target version.

ResCompare requires System 7 or later, plus the Thread Manager. System

This HyperCard stack by Oscar van Vlijmen can show the time in ALL known
time zones, taking the daylight saving time (summertime) into account.
Enter a time, set a few time zones, and this stack will compute the correct
time in the set time zones. From base time to zone time and vice versa.
If you enter a date as well, the correct daylight saving time corrections
(summertime) are taken into account.
This version can show up to 12 timezones simultaneously.

This stack is a Macintosh application of the TZ UNIX timezone database, but
only for the current timezone information, not the historical information.
This stack is updated from TZdata2000h.

What is so special about this stack?
* You can find information about ALL known time zones of the world. The
database has 427 zone cards.
* ALL known information about daylight saving time (summertime) is
included.
* Calculations are made with a precision of one minute, even in the case of
a transition from summer time to winter time (or vice versa) right now.
* The information is extremely up to date.
* You can study and change all information yourself, nothing is hidden.

Freeware; not to be used for commercial applications; not on CD-ROM's.

I am still using the original Apple Scanner (circa 1990), one of those
products from the era when Apple hardware was built like the proverbial
brick - well, tough anyway. It still works perfectly, as I only need
occasional OCR scans, I'd like to keep it. I hate to junk stuff that is in
perfect working order.

My problem is a driver. The latest OCR doesn't recognise the Apple Scan
1.34 driver that powers the scanner. Is there a later Apple Scan driver I
can use which the OCR programs will recognise? I'd like to keep this
elderly beastie in occasional work with my beige G3.

Subject: One other Tetris Game question...

There was also a really cool Tetris variant in which one spelled WORDS with
lettered tiles. Anybody who bought a Performa 600, which came with a
Macintosh Demo Games CD, should be able to find the title. I'd like to know
what it was called.

Thanks in advance,
