Subject: [*] QXP PhotoBook 2.1.1

QXP PhotoBook is a utility that lets you create image catalog files using
QuarkXPress.
It is ideal for creating catalogs of images or clipart. You can quickly
create covers for CD libraries or use it to quickly print out a thumbnail of
every image on a disk or CD.

Using PhotoBook you can create QuarkXPress files of any size and which can
contain any number of any image format supported by QuarkXPress, including
PDF and Gif.

PhotoBook can optionally include headers and footers and picture captions in
any font you specify. Special header and footer tags can incorporate
variable information such as date and time, folder names and page numbers.
Captions can include image information such as file name, file size, file
type and creation date. Also, there are options for color, and picture box
frame widths and styles.

Using drag and drop, PhotoBook makes cataloging images easy. After
configuring, drag image files or a folderful of image files onto its icon to
create QuarkXPress PhotoBooks. PhotoBook can be told to look inside
subfolders as well. There is also an option to batch create many photobooks
at a time.

Other features are described in the manual.

Subject: CD Spin Up/Spin Down problem

All,
I have been having a problem with my CD-ROM lately that I can't find a
solution for. Intermittently, when I insert a CD or when it is accessed, it
will spin up and down from 0 to full speed and back to 0 over and over,
taking as long as 10-15 minutes to load on the desktop. During this time I
can hear what sounds like a disk being read briefly at the height of the
revolution, apparently reading a small amount of the disk before spinning
back down (but does a CD make a noise when data is read?). I have seen this
problem in the forums at MacFixit, but none of the posts has a solution.
However, it appears that replacing the drive does not fix the problem, nor
does reinstalling the CD drivers. It is either a software problem or perhaps
a hardware conflict. Because of the intermittent nature, I can't be sure
that using Conflict Catcher to track a conflict would catch it (a CD can be
fine during one load and exhibit the problem the next). I don't know if it
matters, but my system is a PM7300 upgraded with a PowerLogix 350 MHz G3,
160 MB (Ram Doubled to 256), Mac OS9.1 (but it also happened under 9.04, I'm
not sure if it happened under 9.0 or earlier).

Thanks for your help, this is driving me berserk!

Subject: freezing from sleep under OS 9.1 and...

I sent the following earlier today

Since installing OS 9.1, my Powerbook G3 233 often freezes when
waking. Any quick ideas? Any known incompatibilities from 9.0.4 to
9.1 that may be a problem?

and an additional problem that started with 9.1 is that Eudora
(version 4.3.2) tends to freeze (and take the system with it when I
force quit) for the initial display of email messages with embedded
graphics.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Subject: HTML Coding

Doe anyone have a cgi program or java code that will auto update a web page
whenever there is a change. I have heard that Front Page has such an HTML
code that does that, but I being a MAC fanatic do not have access to front
page. Thanks

Subject: Photoshop 5.5 under 9.1 continued

Earlier I sent:

'I installed 9.1 on my blue & white G3 Photoshop 5.5 will not
launch. It crashes when "initializing type engine". I installed the
Adobe ATM 4.6 from the OS 9.1
CD, but that didn't work. I downloaded ATM 4.6.1 from Adobe, but no
improvement. The Apple site says that older ATMs cause problems, but the
solution is just getting the new version. ImageReady in the same folder
crashes when "starting type engines", I assume it uses the Photoshop code.
Adobe Acrobat reader works fine. I have a demo copy of Illustrator and it
works fine also.'

I saw this message in Macintouch:

Subject: System 9.1 Photoshop Problem Solution

In response to Luke Brannon's problem with Photoshop,
mentioned in the System 9.1 compatibility pages, I also ran
into this and found the solution after much experimenting.
After upgrading on my G4, Photoshop would open, but none of
the tools on the toolbar would function initially, and then
later I started getting the same "unrecoverable error"
message as Luke, and was unable to run Photoshop at all,
even with all extensions off. It turned out to be the
Contextual Menu extension not being turned on in my startup
set. I only happened upon this by trying the OS 9 Base Set.
Now everything is working fine with Photoshop. I find it
strange that I could run Photoshop with OS 9.0.4 fine
without the Contextual Menu extension.

Marty Landa'

I have a "Missing Extensions" document which shows the following:

Contextual Menu Extension - - INIT cmnu

No place can I find this extension, including a Powerbook with
8.6 installed. Is this what Mr. Landa is refering to? The
extensions folder has two contextual menu extension, but
none with that name.
