HTML OptimizerPro 1.5

What it is: Tool for checking and optimizing your web pages
Author: Ton Brand
Company: Ton's Software
Licence: shareware
Computer: PowerPC
Mac OS: 7.5 or later
Abstract:
HTML OptimizerPro's main function is to save space on your web pages by
removing unnecessary characters and tags, making parsing the page by a
browser more efficient.
Four other useful functions of HTML OptimizerPro are:
(1) Checking the so called tagged pairs, i.e. the tags that always have to
appear together with their end tags. Further, IMG tags are checked for WIDTH,
HEIGHT and ALT attributes. ALT attributes can be added if missing, with or
without string.
(2) Checking the validity of the internal links.
(3) Marking dangling tags and missing attributes to find them quickly.
(4) Converting special characters to the &....; notation.
HTML OptimizerPro optimizes very fast: a few seconds for an average file.
New in version 1.5 is that you can check or optimize an entire web folder,
including nested folders, at one pass.
HTML OptimizerPro is a PPC application and requires Mac OS 7.5 or later.

Subject: [*] MathPad 2.5.2

MathPad is a general purpose graphing scientific calculator. It uses a
text window rather than simulating buttons on a hand held calculator. This
live scratchpad interface allows you to see and edit your entire
calculation. Formulas can be entered directly and different values can be
plugged in for easy "what if" calculating.

In addition to being a handy little calculator, MathPad can also take on
larger problems. Simple plotting allows quick visualization of results.
General purpose arrays allow calculations involving vectors, complex
numbers, matrix algebra etc. 2D arrays can be displayed as grayscale or
color images. Several examples are included showing such things as
equation solving, curve fitting, vector calculations and numerical
solution of differential equations.

MathPad 2.5 runs on any Mac with System 7.0 or better and has been tested
under OS9.

MathPad 2.5.2 is an upgrade intended to replace previously posted versions.

Some of the new features:
   * Syntax coloring in text editor
   * Graphics export to formats such as JPEG
   * Direct control of plot trace color and markers
   * Text string manipulation
   * New XFuns for linear algebra, images and sounds

Subject: [*] MoonMenu 1.1J - Japanese Version

This is the Japanese version of the MoonMenu package.

MoonMenu is a system extension that draws the current phase of the moon
in the menubar. The menu, when selected, reveals a textual description
of the moon phase, illumination percentage, the moon's age in days, and
the current lunation number.

MoonMenu also comes with an application that can compute the lunar data
for any given date.

Changes in version 1.1:

* Completely rewrote calculation engine. Times and dates are +/- one
minute relative to U.S. Naval Observatory published ephemris.
* MoonMenu Application has buttons to advance you to the previous new
moon, next new moon, and quarters inbetween.
* The extension now shows dates of upcoming new moon, first quarter,
full moon, and last quarter in the system menu.

Subject: [*] NetFinder 2.1 - FTP client.

The most Finder-like FTP client for the MacOS has just got better.

NetFinder was the first FTP client to use the Finder hierarchy listing
paradigm. With an intuitive user interface that everyone is familiar
with, users can begin to use this program in no time at all.

NetFinder v1.x started the FTP client war, by being the first FTP client to:
- support resume downloading after you quit or crash.
- add drag and drop support for all operations including moving files from
one folder to another, server to server coping as well as the standard
  uploading, downloading and trashing...
- inline filename editing, just like the Finder.
- integrated BBEdit support for transparent file editing.
- support for setting permissions on files and folders (even recursively).

The Finder-like listing window supports viewing by name, date, size, and
permissions. Other features include automatic binhex, macbinary and text
translation for uploads and downloads. Supports many ftp servers.
Has speech support. Internet Config savvy. Supports bookmark lists.

What's New in v2.1

- added support for SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) FTP. All data transfers can
now be encrypted. Requires OpenSSL module to be installed. PPC Support
  Only.

- added support for ICI script. Customizing NetFinder to perform specific
tasks is now easier than ever. Requires Scripting Components module to be
installed. PPC Support Only. Useful scripts include:
    - Sending FTP commands.
    - Changing FTP "ping" (NOOP) interval. Or send your own custom "ping".
    - Extract URL's from any text file.
    - Search offline documentation for word.

- added support for filtering in the display using wildcards or regexp.
Allowing you to see what you want at a touch of a key.

- added support for advanced upload mirroring.
Makes maintaining a website even easier.

- added support for server parser plugins. Allowing NetFinder to support
just about any FTP server with a non-standard listing. You can even write
  your own parsers.

Subject: [*] ShadowKeys 1.0

The extension ShadowKeys provides two missing keys for the Apple USB
Keyboard. The Apple USB Keyboard (provided with iMac, G3, and G4)
doesn't have Forward-Delete and End keys as found on old ADB Keyboard.

   * The Forward-Delete key is generated when depressing the
Clear/NumLock key (just at the right side of the Backspace or
Backward-Delete key).

Note: The NumLock key will be generated when depressing it with the
Shift key hold (particularly useful in Adobe FrameMaker).

   * The End key is generated when depressing the Shift+Home keys.

Compatibility and System Requirements

iMac, G3, or G4 with an Apple USB Keyboard. ShadowKeys 1.0 works fine
under Mac OS 8.5, 8.6, 9.0, and 9.0.4.

ShadowKeys has been tested successfuly with many applications and
particularly with Adobe FrameMaker, QuarkXPress, ClarisWorks, MS
Office, and several developer tools.

The memory usage (footprint memory) is very tight, less than 200
bytes in system heap, and ShadowKeys doesn't patch any system trap,
it uses a documented service!

Subject: [A] Script to bring the desktop to the font

I think that you need the "Akua Sweets" scripting additions. In the
English version there is a command called "puppet menu" which takes an
argument which takes (again, for an English-language version of Mac OS) a
list argument containing the menu name and the menu item name:
{"Application","Hide Others"}.

So with Akua Sweets installed, your script (in English) would be:

  tell application "Finder" to activate
  puppet menu {"Application","Hide Others"}

Alternatively, without scripting, the old but serviceable control panel
"ApplWindows" can automatically hide other applications whenever you
switch between applications.

Subject: [Q] Multiple address books in OE 5.0.2

Hi.

Is there a way to get Outlook Express 5.0.2 to create multiple
address books? I'm not talking about groups. The group function
only puts e-mail addresses in one single name. What I would like to
do is get various address books organized by categories, departments,
etc. In other words, each address book would contain all the various
pieces of information (name, phone, fax, address, etc.) as in the
single Address Book currently available in OE. If I have several
departments in my company, I would like to keep my addresses
organized by departments. Eudora Pro allows you to have extra
nicknames organized just like that. Anyone knows of a way to do the
same in OE?

Howdy all,

I used to play a very interesting and challenging strategy game in
which you have to move objects in a room to specific locations, and
you can only do that by pushing them around. It's an old game, and I
don't have it anymore neither can I locate it anywhere in the

recognize the name if someone pointed it out to me. Does anyone
remember what that game is called or where I can locate a copy?

Thanks!

Jean-Pierre,

It is tricky. I have not been able to get Applescript to do this. KeyQuencher can do it easily...

     Menu Application "Finder"
     Menu Application "Hide Others"

Subject: Shutdown problem

Running a PowerMac 6500/225 with 7.6.1, 64 MB RAM, OT v. 1.1.1, external
56K Supra modem and a Umax Scanner.

For the past few weeks, whenever I attempt a shutdown I get the warning
"Shutdown could not be completed because the application 'unknown' could
not quit". As as result, I have to do the Control-Command-Power Key routine
to shut down.

A shutdown soon after startup (e.g. startup, going online, downloading mail
with Eudora, and then closing the applications), gives no problem, but if I
have opened several applications, done some printing, etc., then the
problem returns. Suspecting extensions conflicts to be the cause of the
problem, I could try using Conflict Catcher to investigate, but the
procedure could take hours, as each test would involve a shutdown and
startup, and faking a "typical" session to get the problem to reappear.

Any ideas?
