Subject: [*] MacChef 2.0.1

MacChef 2.0.1 has a cleaner interface than version 2.0 and now includes
color. It will be a valuable asset to your cooking.

MacChef 2.0.1 is a HyperCard stack designed primarily to archive recipe
textfiles downloaded from the Web and from Usenet groups like
rec.food.recipes. This version was produced with HyperCard 2.4.1 and
requires HyperCard or HyperCard Player.

MacChef 2.0.1 contains over 500 recipes and is much faster than the
original. It includes a search operation and a batch print procedure
that version 1.0 did not have, and the interface on the Help Card is
much easier to work with. MacChef is shareware (US $10) but you may
modify it as you wish.

$10 SHAREWARE 1500+ Bookmarks Apple oriented.

I would like to quickly tell you why this is a SHAREWARE product. 6
years ago I was diagnosed with a rare spinal cord disease called
SYRINGOMYELIA (SAH-RINGO-MY-E-LEE-AH). A progressive nerve disease that
slowly "shuts down" nerves and feeling to the entire body. In the first
3 years I had 8 spinal cord operations trying to halt the collecting and
thus the swelling of the spinal fluid that shuts off the nerves to the

Please read the READ ME file in with the download. It explains my

Subject: [*] Macintosh Application Development Essentials 1.4.0

Macintosh Application Development Essentials (MADE for short) is a tiny
package of C/C++ code which provides all the lowest-level needs for a
Macintosh application. It contains basic routines for dealing with
errors, memory, menus, events, linked lists, AppleEvents and
Drag-and-Drop.

MADE is used extensively at Sig Software for our own programs. Analog
Helper, Cross Platform and Email Effects for Mac are built entirely on
the MADE framework, while Email Merge and NameCleaner use parts of it.

If you purchase MADE, you will receive extra code for string
manipulation, opening URLs, threading, dealing with memory and file
buffers, dialog box items and opening and saving files with the new
Navigation Services. All of these features are documented with comments
in the code.

Version 1.4.0 adds errors contexts and hiding, linked-list management,
threading and Navigation Services support to the licensed package, and
rearranged files and documentation.

Subject: [*] MacTypingTutor 4.7

Replaces MacTypingTutor4.6 for Power Macintoshes. This version will now
open on both older and newer Power Macs.

Individuals with regular Macintoshes should download MacTypingTutor4.3.1 or
earlier. Schools can arrange to acquire both the Power Mac version and
regular Mac version for the same fee.

The MacTypingTutor programs are great for beginning typing students. They
use five integrated work areas that together teach correct finger placement
and memorization of the keyboard keys. Practice exercises focus on single
letters, letter and number sequences, words, sentences, paragraphs, and
free typing. The program offers a spelling checker, user-defined speed
goals, score sheets, time tracking with rest signals, and many other
helpful features. You can hide or show your typing, screen-keyboard, and
feedback reports. You can adjust difficulty level from very easy to hard
(this is a good feature for younger children). The program automatically
remembers your work-preferences from session to session.

MacTypingTutor comes in the regular version, a special keyboard version
(Dvorak), a French version, an English version with a French
keyboard-layout, and one-handed versions (left or right). Contact W. Rogers
at one of the email addresses below to get other versions of MacTypingTutor.

Subject: [*] Suntar 2.2.2

This is Suntar, the freeware tar utility for the
Macintosh.

What's suntar ?

Really, suntar is becoming two things in one. It's a MacBinary,
BinHex, uuencode and PackIt extractor, and it's one of the fastest
extractors you can find, and one of the few which may convert more files
in one operation (only with drag&drop, by now). That may be enough to
let you wish use it.
But its original purpose was to communicate, acting as a bridge
between a UNIX workstation and the Mac if a few, minimal hardware
requirements are met: that is, a physical medium (a mass storage
device) must be connected to both machines. That's usually easy with
floppy disks but almost any SCSI device may be used instead.
Finally, handling devices requires some bookkeeping: this may be seen
as a third personality; some time ago I used suntar to resurrect a
SyQuest cartridge which, according to Norton Utilities, was completely
lost. That's because all available utilities access the disk at a rather
high level, and can't solve even the simplest problems arising at a
lower level.

Test Pilot Typer II is a program which helps students learn keyboarding
skills. It approaches keyboarding from a different angle - the student
becomes a "Test Pilot Typer", and tries to keep up with the ever-elusive
Captain Flywell by typing everything he types. Captain Flywell provides
encouragement via digital voice samples.

Features:
1. Up to 100 students can enter their names into the program.
2. Lessons are designed to be short - no more "type as fast as you can for
10 minutes".
3. Each student chooses their own password.
4. Results from all student lessons are saved for teacher access.
5. Prints reports for all student progress.
6. Prints a certificate after the completion of every 5 levels.
7. Students go through the program in a pre-set order.
8. No cutesy "games" to play - just high interest typing!

Subject: [*] Tex-Edit Plus 2.6J

This is the Japanese version of Tex-Edit Plus.

Tex-Edit Plus is a styled text editor that is especially adept at
formatting text for transfer over the Internet. It is fast, efficient
and uses little memory. Keep a copy in your Apple menu and an alias on
the desktop for drag-and-drop operations. System 7 or better required.

NEW -- Tex-Edit Plus 2.6 adds support for embedded QuickTime movies
(including drag, drop, insert, cut, copy, paste, play, save, etc.). Open
and play any QuickTime movie document. Movie handling is (of course)
scriptable. Picture printing has been improved, multiple document
searches are easier, and background processor usage has been improved.
See the Revision History for a list of all the other improvements and
fixes.

With Tex-Edit Plus you can:

*Quickly create, edit and print styled text documents of unlimited size.
*View and print TeachText or SimpleText read-only ("ReadMe") documents,
including pictures.
*Easily create your own SimpleText read-only documents, including
pictures.
*View and print color PICT files, such as those produced by draw
programs or Apple's built-in screen snapshot utility.
*Copy a selection from a PICT file, cropping the image for use in a word
processor, etc.
*Play QuickTime and QuickTime VR movies.
*View, edit and print text documents created by virtually any word
processor or computer.
*Reformat downloaded e-mail or text, correcting word-wrap problems and
removing extraneous, non-Mac characters.
*Prepare text for upload to a BBS, so that people with MS-DOS systems
can view the document as it was intended to be viewed.
*Instantly quote a brief passage from received e-mail, allowing the
sender to remember their original message.
*Read any text document aloud, if you have Apple's Speech Manager
extension. (Listen to a TeachText read-only file, for example, as the
text and pictures scroll by!)
*Quickly optimize a document for printing, substituting
professional-looking typographical characters for generic,
typewriter-era characters.
*Create simple hypertext documents.
*Insert attention-getting sound annotations to spice up ordinary
inter-office mail.
*And more...

Subject: [*] Twistory 1.5 - History Browser

Twistory 1.5

"Twistory" is a history browser. It displays the lifetimes and
travels of historical figures, and dates and locations of historical
events. It is a tool for keeping track of when and where things happened,
and their relationships to each other. It is meant to provide a way to
keep track of the multitude of different peoples, dynasties, empires and
developments throughout history. It answers questions like, "What else was
happening in the world at that time?"

Twistory is a historical dictionary that you can use to create maps
and time-lines. A resource of over 2250 people, events and places is
included. The database has an open text format, so that more historical
information can be added by any user. A complete description of the file
format is included.

The two main windows are the time-line window, which shows lives and
events against a variable time scale, and the map window, which shows
people and events in their geographic locations during an interval of time.
There is also a genealogy window which shows the ancestors and descendants
of the selected person, and an info window that shows additional details
about the person or event. A "This Day in History" window lists all
milestones occurring on a particular day of the year. There is also a
"Find" window.

Version 1.5 greatly improves the speed at which the database loads.
Also, water is now drawn in blue on the map.

Twistory will work on any Mac with system 7 or later. It uses about 6
Mb of disk space, and needs at least 2.5 Mb of RAM to run comfortably.
With a large monitor or with several windows open, 4 Mb is better.

Twistory is $10 (US or Cdn) shareware. You may evaluate it for free.
If you wish to buy it, you may send the payment to the address included
with the program. If you desire support, please send your e-mail address
along, and I will write back. This program is free for all users who have
registered a previous version of it.

I am a happy iMac owner and I was also lucky enough to purchase an eMate

Now I have a problem connecting the two, the infra red connection
doesn't work.

Has anyone had any hands-on experience using the Keyspan USB<->serial

I had to send my adapter back because it doesn't work. According to
Keyspan it should work. The mail order company sayes it doesn't work. I
can't figure out who's right.

By the way: does anyone have experience with the iDock product and an
eMate or any other product that should work.

Thanks in advance,

PS: can anyone get the IRDA link between iMac and eMate to work, I think
its just a matter of software.
