Hi Florian, hi Jim. Please find attached an archive NOVOLTRK.ZIP containing a file NOVOLTRK.REG to import a number of registry keys into the Windows registry in order to keep the Windows 95/98/SE/ME Volume Tracker from modifying floppy and other removable media when accessing them under the GUI. Otherwise it will overwrite the OEM label with a "?????IHC" signature which may cause these media to be no longer recognized by Windows after the next eject/reinsert sequence. The file is under the GNU GPL 2 and I would like it to be distributed on the http://www.drdos.org (because Novell DOS 7, OpenDOS 7.01, and DR-DOS 7.02 - 7.06 are seriously affected by this problem) and possibly the http://www.freedos.org site, to make it easier for people to grap the file and "fix" Windows, and also to make the problem more widely known. I gratefully receive reports in regard to any other OEM labels used anywhere (no matter how old or obsure those media were), and will make updates of the file available from time to time. The list of OEM labels will also become part of a future issue of RBIL. Thanks and greetings, Matthias -- ; http://www.uni-bonn.de/~uzs180/mpdokeng.html; http://mpaul.drdos.org "Programs are poems for computers." _________________________________________________________________ Hi Jim, Please find attached a new version of my registry patch to keep Windows 95/98/SE/ME from tampering with the OEM label in a disk's boot sector. I have added more known OEM labels to the list, but also changed some defaults as some issues of Windows seem to have some size limitations. Every Windows 9x user should install this patch -- it cannot harm and may only help avoiding problems before they occur. As before the file is under the GPL 2. Greetings, Matthias
